Greetings Single Brothers and Sisters In Christ,
As a single Christian, are you finding it difficult to meet other single like-minded believers for the purpose of:
- Fellowship
- Friendship, shared common interests and fun wholesome activities
- Strengthening, growth and encouragement of your Christian walk
If so, there is a group that may interest you.
About a year and a half ago it was laid on my heart to reach out to other single adult believers from my church, Sheridan First Baptist, to explore interest in the above-stated purposes. It was learned that many other single adult's from First Baptist were indeed interested in becoming part of such a group.
As a result, a group we have been calling the "Single Adult's Fellowship" has begun to informally meet on a bi-weekly basis for fellowship and fun. Those attending are asked for their thoughts, ideas and input concerning the group and future activities.
There are singles in the group that wish to include brothers and sisters in Christ from other churches as well. Seeking God's will and direction, we lifted it up to the Lord in prayer and met with our pastor, Ken Doolin.
Because we seek God's blessing on this group, and want all that we do to be honoring to Him, we believe that it is vital that there be a shared unity in the body of Christ within this group. Biblical instruction for such a unity in the body of Christ is found in:
Romans 15:4-6 4For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. 5May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, 6so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 4:1-6 1As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. 2Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. 4There is one body and one Spirit-just as you were called to one hope when you were called- 5one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
1 Thessalonians 5:10-12 10He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him. 11Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. 12Now we ask you, brothers, to respect those who work hard among you, who are over you in the Lord and who admonish you.
Hebrews 3:12-14 12See to it, brothers, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. 13But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness. 14We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first.
We believe from talking with Pastor Ken, that with much thought and prayer, we can attain such unity with other Pastors United In Christ (PUIC) churches. We are inviting other single adult Christians from PUIC churches to join us for fellowship and fun! As fellow brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ, all of us being members of the family of God, we would meet in a non-denominational capacity.
Those who would be interested or have further questions concerning the group may contact Mark Hoover. Thank you and God Bless.
Your Brother In Christ,
Mark Hoover
